Homemade Buncha Crunch

This homemade buncha crunch candy is the perfect way to make your favorite movie theater snack at home! It takes 5 minutes to make and you only need 3 simple ingredients.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves Buncha Crunch! This sweet and crunchy snack is a movie night must-have. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to make it at home!

Whether you are serving it on top of your favorite popcorn, or eating it straight from the tub, I no doubt believe this is going to be a new go to in your house if you love chocolate as much as me. Let’s get to it!

Ingredients & Substitutions

All you need for this recipe is rice cereal, chocolate, and a little coconut oil or butter. The oil helps the chocolate melt and it also helps it to stay slightly soften even when set.

  • Rice Cereal– You can use any kind of plain rice cereal you like. I used Rice Krispies.
  • Chocolate– I used semi sweet chocolate chips but you can use your favorite chocolate. You can even use  Lily’s Dark baking chips which are sweetened with stevia. Their dark chocolate is also vegan friendly.
  • Coconut oil- You can use coconut oil or butter.

How to Make Homemade Buncha Crunch

This recipe is so simple but it’s a great treat! By tossing the cereal with the chocolate in a zipper top bag, you get little chunks instead of just one whole bar.  I started with a 1 to 1 ratio of chocolate and cereal but I felt like I could get my chocolate to go a little further so I added more cereal.  Feel free to stop at 1 cup or add even more if you don’t need it as chocolatey!

After you’ve tossed the cereal in chocolate, spread it out in a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Just let it drop out of the bag, scraping the last bits if any is stuck inside.  This will form your clusters so just make sure they are about the size you want and you can always break up any that are too big.

And that is it! I threw mine in the fridge for it to harden, and I also stored it there for best keeping. Feel free to reach out with any questions if I didn’t address one of yours!

  • a microwave safe bowl for melting your chocolate
  • a spoon (probably) for the chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice cereal
  • 2/3 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil or butter

Instructions

  1. In a microwave safe bowl melt the chocolate and coconut oil and stir to combine.
  2. Place the rice cereal in a large zipper top bag.
  3. Pour the chocolate onto the cereal, shaking vigorously until it is evenly coated, and then transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Put in fridge until the chocolate has hardened.

Notes

you can start with 1/2 cup of cereal and decide if you think you like the ratio of chocolate to cereal.  I added a few more tablespoons because I felt like I could make the chocolate go a little further but it is totally up to you!

The traditional rice krispy cereal is not certified gluten free.  If you want this gluten free I recommend One Degree brown rice crisps.
