Gluten Free Option
The apple galette – sometimes referred to as the lazy man’s apple pie – is a rustic tart that is filled with fruit and baked “free form,” with no pie pan necessary. But they make a beautiful dessert! And this apple galette is the easiest of them all, without sacrificing the great spiced apple cinnamon flavor and flaky crust. It is healthy too!
Ingredients
Scale
- One 9 inch pie crust
- 2 large apples
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar + a little extra for the crust
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspooons lemon juice
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Roll your pie crust out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Slice your apples really thin (peeling optional) and toss in a bowl with the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Leaving about 1 inch of space around the edge of the pie crust, place your apples on the crust. You can do this in any pattern you’d like (or no pattern at all!)
- Fold the edges of the pie crust over the apples, pinching lightly to seal.
- Whisk your egg in a small bowl and brush over the crust of the galette, sprinkle with additional brown sugar.
- Bake for about 40 minutes, until crust is golden brown and apples are baked through.
- Enjoy warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or as-is!
