Description

Imagine your favorite glass of hot chocolate.  It is warm, lightly sweetened, really chocolatey, topped with whipped cream and marshmallows, and makes your morning oh so cozy.  That is what this is, just in french toast form!  This hot chocolate french toast is the perfect healthy breakfast recipe that will warm you up on a chilly day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 slices of thick brioche-style bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cocoa, and sugar.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, on both sides, and then transfer to a greased pan over medium heat and fry until golden brown, flip, and do the same on the other side.
  3. Serve with whipped cream, marshmallows, and chocolate chips!

Notes

You could also use a hot chocolate mix in place of the cocoa powder and sugar

I was able to get five slices of bread done with this mixture, but they were large brioche-style slices.  I would be prepared to be able to get anywhere from 5-6 slices out of this amount of egg mixture.   If you need more for a crowd, simply double or triple the recipe!
