Description
This homemade marinara sauce is easy to make using a few basic pantry staples. It’s perfect for pizza, pasta, or breadsticks!

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans stewed tomatoes
- 1 6oz can tomato paste
- 1/4 cup fresh chopped basil leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the stewed tomatoes with their juices, tomato paste, basil, sugar, thyme, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth, or carefully transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed.
- Serve the marinara sauce over pasta, use as a dipping sauce, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
