Description

This homemade marinara sauce is easy to make using a few basic pantry staples. It’s perfect for pizza, pasta, or breadsticks!


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste


Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the stewed tomatoes with their juices, tomato paste, basil, sugar, thyme, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  8. Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth, or carefully transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth.
  9. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  10. Serve the marinara sauce over pasta, use as a dipping sauce, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
