Gluten Free, Vegan, Refined Sugar Free
Crockpot apple butter takes your favorite spread and makes it easier than ever. Made with only apples and spices, no added sugars, dump it all into your crockpot, let it do all the work, and then enjoy a delicious spread you can feel good about!
Ingredients
- 4 small to medium apples
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Core and dice apples into small pieces (removing skin is optional).
- Combine apples and spices (everything except vanilla) in crockpot, stir to distribute spices, and cook on low for 6 hours.
- For best texture, remove apples from the crockpot using a slotted spoon so extra liquids are separated, and transfer to a food processor to blend. You can also blend right in the crockpot using an immersion blender. Add vanilla as you blend.
- Let cool and then transfer to storage!
Notes
I have made batches using Red Delicious and Honeycrisp apples and think you can use any that you prefer.
I do not peel my apples. Once you blend them you can barely tell skin is there, unless you are eating it straight from the spoon. It doesn’t bother me and I like the added fiber, but you can peel if you prefer.
