Crockpot apple butter takes your favorite spread and makes it easier than ever. Made with only apples and spices, no added sugars, dump it all into your crockpot, let it do all the work, and then enjoy a delicious spread you can feel good about!
I absolutely love apple butter! While pumpkin spice is a fall favorite, apples are my top choice, and they’re hard to beat. If you feel the same, you’re going to love this recipe. It’s similar to my stovetop apple butter, which is perfect when you’re short on time, but this version is even easier since the crockpot does all the work—and it makes your home smell amazing.
I’ve been enjoying this apple butter on everything: spreading it on English muffins and bread, dipping pretzels and crackers in it, and even dipping apples (which I later realized was a bit funny!). You’ll find countless ways to use it, and it also makes a charming holiday gift when packaged in a cute jar!
If you love apple too be sure to check out my apple cinnamon overnight oats for a great breakfast, and my single serve apple crisp to finish off your day for dessert! I also have some apple cinnamon hand pies and a spiced apple upside down cake that are both gluten free and look really impressive but are super easy to make 😉

Ingredients You’ll Need for Crockpot Apple Butter:
This really is too easy, literally all you need is apple and spices!
- Apples – I like to use Honeycrisp because they are my all-time fave. But you can also go with a sweeter option like Red Delicious to take advantage of the natural sweetness of the fruit since we aren’t adding sugar.
- Spices – I use a blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt to give this recipe alllll the fall flaovrs
- Vanilla Extract – just adds a little something extra to the flavor.
And that is it! Ready to make your apple butter??
Tips for the Perfect Crockpot Apple Butter:
The instructions for this recipe are super simple: just toss everything into your crockpot! I don’t bother peeling the apples since it’s not necessary, and you get the bonus of extra fiber. Once the apples are pureed, you can barely notice the peels. However, if you’re picky about texture, feel free to peel them.
You can use either a food processor or an immersion blender. I like the immersion blender because it’s less to clean, but the food processor gives a thicker consistency by allowing you to separate the apples from the extra liquid.
Before adding any sugar, try it as is—I promise the apples provide plenty of sweetness! If you want the sweetest version, opt for apples like Red Delicious, Pink Lady, or Fuji. For a deeper, more complex flavor, I love mixing different apple varieties in one batch!
In addition to the listed ingredients, you will need:
- a CrockPot
- An immersion blender or food processor
- Mason jars for storage
I hope you enjoy spreading this on everything all fall long!

Description
Gluten Free, Vegan, Refined Sugar Free
Crockpot apple butter takes your favorite spread and makes it easier than ever. Made with only apples and spices, no added sugars, dump it all into your crockpot, let it do all the work, and then enjoy a delicious spread you can feel good about!
Ingredients
- 4 small to medium apples
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Core and dice apples into small pieces (removing skin is optional).
- Combine apples and spices (everything except vanilla) in crockpot, stir to distribute spices, and cook on low for 6 hours.
- For best texture, remove apples from the crockpot using a slotted spoon so extra liquids are separated, and transfer to a food processor to blend. You can also blend right in the crockpot using an immersion blender. Add vanilla as you blend.
- Let cool and then transfer to storage!
Notes
I have made batches using Red Delicious and Honeycrisp apples and think you can use any that you prefer.
I do not peel my apples. Once you blend them you can barely tell skin is there, unless you are eating it straight from the spoon. It doesn’t bother me and I like the added fiber, but you can peel if you prefer.
