Why you will love these Witch’s Brew Cauldron Brownies

  • Seriously, do you need anything more than how stinking cute they are??
  • Easy to make
  • Great for kids in the kitchen
  • They will be the hit of the Halloween party

How to Make Witch’s Brew Cauldron Brownies

  1. Make the Fondant Brew Sticks – You are simply going to take small bits of black fondant and roll them into somewhat thick ‘logs’. The hardest part of this step is remembering to prep these the day before. Your brew sticks will need to dry out overnight.
  2. Make the Brownies – This step is also simple since we are taking the short cut of using a boxed brownie mix. You are more than welcome to substitute in your favorite homemade brownies. But boxed mix is a great alternative for something quick and easy. You are going to need a family size box, or a 9×13 pan of homemade.
  3. Make the Frosting – I used a simple buttercream frosting recipe for these brownies. You are welcome to use your family’s favorite type of frosting. If you need to keep it just as easy as the brownies, you are welcome to use can frosting, just know that the food coloring will thin it out some. It might not sit up as well on the cauldrons as what’s in the pictures.
  4. Decorate the Cauldron Brownies – Once you have iced your brownies and cauldrons, you are going to add on your favorite Halloween sprinkles. I used a few of my favorite Wilton brand that I found in the baking section at Michaels.

Not a fan of fondant?

If you would prefer to skip the fondant on the brew stick, you have a few options for substitutions. You could leave it completely off; the brownies would still be adorable with the frosting and sprinkles. But to truly round out the witch’s cauldron, you need the stick! I would suggest using a pretzel stick or a cut piece of black licorice in its place. Chocolate covered pretzel sticks would be another great option!

Where can I find the cauldrons?

Since, with this recipe you are simply breaking up a full sheet pan of brownies and not trying to fit a full cupcake into a cauldron, you honestly could use any small plastic cauldrons you can find. Amazon, Michaels, even Wal-Mart or Target would more than likely have some type of cauldron in stock. I found mine in the Halloween baking section at Michaels.

Description

Bewitch your Halloween party guests with these adorably spooky cauldron brownies. Your ghouls and goblins of any age will love these easy to make treats!

Ingredients

Scale

Fondant Brew Stick

  • 8 oz black fondant
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Cauldron Brownies

  • 1 family-size box chocolate fudge brownie mix
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 24 plastic cauldrons

Vanilla Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • neon green gel food coloring
  • purple gel food coloring
  • Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

Fondant Brew Sticks

  1. Dust your hands and a cutting board with powdered sugar. Work with your hands to make the fondant soft and moldable.

  2. Pinch off about 1 teaspoon of the fondant and using your middle and pointer fingers, roll the dough ball in an up and down motion to create a log.

  3. Set aside on a cookie sheet to dry overnight.

  4. Repeat steps to create 23 additional brew sticks.

Cauldron Brownies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. Using a hand mixer, beat all of the ingredients together until combined.

  3. Pour the brownie batter into the baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the brownies comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.

  4. Place the plastic cauldrons on a cookie sheet

  5. Using a knife, cut the brownies into bite-sized pieces. You could also use your hands to gently break the brownies into smaller pieces.

  6. Gently stuff the brownie pieces into the cauldrons and set aside while you make the frosting.

Vanilla Frosting

  1. Using a mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream until combined and smooth and stiff peaks form

  2. Scoop about 1 ½ C of frosting into another bowl and mix in a few drops of the purple food coloring

  3. Add a few drops of neon green into the main bowl of frosting

  4. Scoop 1 ½ C of the green frosting into one side of a large piping bag fitted with a star tip. Scoop the purple frosting into the other side of the large piping bag

Decorating the Cauldrons

  1. Using the large piping bag with the two frosting colors, pipe frosting into the middle of the cauldron, covering the brownies.

  2. Sprinkle a few of each type of sprinkle around on the frosting. Place the fondant stick into the side of the frosting
