aperol spritz

I love a good cocktail and this aperol spritz is the perfect drink to enjoy before or after dinner.  It is super refreshing and really easy to make!

If you are looking for some other drink inspiration check out the drinks section of the blog!

Ingredients You’ll Need for your Classic Aperol Spritz:

  • Aperol – this one is a must in order to make an aperol spritz, no subbing this one.  Aperol is an orange apéritif, the brand describes it as a unique blend of zesty oranges, harmonizing herbs, and a touch of vanilla that creates a unique, pleasant bittersweet taste.  It is really good if you haven’t had it before!  And it is not too high in alcohol so this is a great drink you can sip on without getting too tipsy too quick.
  • Prosecco – prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine that is similar to champagne.  You want to make sure you get a dry prosecco (in my opinion) for this drink so it doesn’t get too sweet.  Any dry champagne will also do!
  • Club soda – to add some bubbles and dilution to this drink that is mostly made of alcohol 😛 any unflavored sparkling beverage will do for this part!
  • Oranges – these are optional, I used them as garnishes, but they do make the drinks look more fun 🙂
  • Ice – important to any cocktail because who wants to drink them warm??

Is aperol gluten free?

According to Aperol’s website, Aperol does not contain any gluten-containing ingredients, which suggests that it is gluten-free. However, it is always recommended to double-check the label and contact the manufacturer directly to confirm if a product is gluten-free, especially if you have a gluten allergy.

Tips for the Perfect Aperol Spritz:

Good news – you can’t really mess this one up!  Other good news, it is easy to tailor to how flavorful/strong you want it!  So get your mixologist hat on and get excited about your aperol spritz.  These would be my couple notes:

I do one part aperol to one part champagne with a splash of club soda, if that is not doing it for you, here is what you can do:

  • If it tastes too strong, add more club soda
  • If it is too sweet, make sure you are using a really dry champagne
  • If you want more flavor without more alcohol, squeeze an orange slice into it

And then here are just a couple extra tips:

  • If you want to make it look fancy, add the orange slice as garnish
  • Stir, don’t shake.  We don’t want to ruin those good bubbles!

And that is it!  In addition to the listed ingredients you will need:

  • a cup
  • something to stir with

Cheers!

Gluten Free, Vegan

Aperol Spritzes are super refreshing, not too sweet, really bubbly cocktails, really popular in Italy, that are perfect to relax with sitting on your porch after a long day.  What I love about them too is they are really easy to make!  Grab this recipe to save as your perfect Italian escape in your own backyard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Ice
  • 1 part Aperol
  • 1 part prosecco*
  • Splash of club soda
  • Orange slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Fill your glass with ice.
  2. Pour your Aperol in, until it reaches about 1/3 of the way up the glass.
  3. Then pour your prosecco to about 2/3 full.
  4. Finish with a splash of club soda and an orange slice to garnish.

Notes

*I like to use a dryer prosecco so that the drink doesn’t get too sweet.  I have also made this with just about any dry champagne I have on hand (usually extra dry or brut), so it doesn’t have to be prosecco specifically!

Aperol is both gluten free and vegan, just make sure the champagne you use is too!

  1. Classic drink but never pour aperol in first. Always follow the PASS method. In a wine glass with ice
    Prosecco
    Aperol
    Soda (club)
    Slice (orange)

  2. The flavors were so well balanced in this! I’m making another tonight! 🙂

  3. What a beautiful and simple recipe. The aperol was a very nice change for me. I had picked some up and wasn’t sure what to do with it. This recipe was nice because I had everything on hand! Thanks!

  4. When I lived in Rome, there was a small aperetivo place next to my house that made the best spritzes – and I think I’ve topped that with this recipe! Thanks so much for bringing back so much nostalgia – will definitely be making on repeat for the summer.

  5. I was looking for a recipe for aperol spritz — glad I stumbled upon your site! I think this is my new favourite drink — definitely not too sweet!
