Easy Tahini Vegan Salted Caramel

Soft and creamy caramel that tastes like it came straight from a candy shop, but made with four healthy ingredients, and ready in under five minutes from the comfort of your own home.

Its like the center of a twix bar but wayyyyy BETTER.  This tahini salted caramel is soft and creamy and decadent and delicious but it is made with really great ingredients that you can feel good about! And I love that it barely takes five minutes from start to finish.

I love it straight off the spoon 🙂 but I also use it in my salted caramel chocolate thumbprint cookies and they are my FAVE so you gotta try them!  I like that it stays soft, even when you put it in the fridge.  No rock hard caramel here.  But it also doesn’t stay SO soft that it runs out everywhere and you cant do anything with it.  It is the perfect happy medium!

If you love salted caramel you should also check out my salted caramel black bean brownies and my  salted caramel protein mug cake.  They use a salted caramel protein but I bet if you drizzled some of this on top it would be AHHHmazing.

Ingredients You’ll Need for your Easy Tahini Vegan Salted Caramel:

This recipe only uses four ingredients and you just combine them in a sauce pan so it doesn’t get much easier than that! for this vegan caramel you will use:

  • Tahini – can’t have tahini caramel without the tahini!
  • Agave – I used agave to keep this vegan and refined sugar free.  I love agave because it is super sweet so you don’t need much of it to make an impact.  But you could definitely try using maple syrup or another sticky sweetener if you want to.
  • Vanilla – the vanilla just adds a good depth to the flavor.  Honestly, you could probably leave it out though if you don’t have any on hand
  • Sea salt – gotta have salt to make salted caramel! I like using flaky or crushed sea salt in mine, not just regular table salt.  I think it makes a difference, but you could certainly try the latter and if you do, let me know what you think.

And that is it!  Super simple ingredients and easy peasy to make.

Tips for the Perfect Easy Tahini Vegan Salted Caramel!

As the name states this is easy, so not too many directions here!  You are going to start with your agave, vanilla, and tahini in a sauce pan over low to medium heat.  I have never had this burn on me but just to be safe don’t take the temp too high.  You only need to mix for a couple minutes, you want everything to be well combined and you will see the texture start to get a litttttle thick and creamy.  Perfect.

Then how you add the salt is up to you and what you are doing with the caramel.  In the directions I say to let the sauce cool down first and then add it.  This is so you can keep those salt crystals in tact and they don’t dissolve.  BUT it does get thicker as it cools so if you want it to be really runny and pour-able for whatever you are using it in, you have two options:

  1.  add the salt while it is still hot – it is okay if it dissolves because you will still get the flavor!
  2. don’t add salt at all in the caramel.  Just pour it on whatever you are using it with, let it cool a little, and then top that with some flaky sea salt.

I store mine in the fridge but if you ever need it to be runnier you can always throw it back in the sauce pan and heat up for a couple minutes!

And that is it! Please share all the things you use this on because I would love any excuse to eat this even more often  than I already do 🙂

Description

Gluten Free, Vegan, Refined Sugar Free

Soft and creamy caramel that tastes like it came straight from a candy shop, but made with four healthy ingredients, and ready in under five minutes from the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 1/3 cup agave
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • flaky sea salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small sauce pan over low to medium heat, combine the tahini, agave, and vanilla until combined and creamy.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool before mixing in sea salt – add to taste!

Notes

This is pretty runny when it is warm and thickens as it cools so don’t wait too long to add the salt to make it easy to combine (without it completely dissolving).  Even if it does dissolve you will still get the taste!

Depending on how you are using the caramel you can also just top it with the salt!

This caramel will always be a little soft (aka the perfect texture 🙂 ) unless you freeze.  I like storing things I make with it in the fridge!
