A subtly sweet and nutty flavor combined with your favorite Asian spices makes this spicy thai peanut hummus a perfect snack regardless of what mood you are in! It is also high protein, gluten free, and vegan.
I am a bigggg homemade hummus fan. Store bought hummus is so expensive and who wants to dish out that kind of money when a can of chickpeas is so cheap, all you need to add to that is probably some spices you have already, and it is super fast!? Not me that is for sure.
I love this hummus because it has a little bit of sweetness from the peanut butter but also has some spice from the cayenne! My kinda afternoon snack when I am feeling something savory.
If you want to take this up a notch try this hummus on my hummus quesadillas. Such a fun meal idea for adults or kids! And if you want to try other hummus recipes check out my spinach and artichoke dip hummus, my pumpkin hummus, and definitely dont miss my salted chocolate pecan DESSERT hummus when you want something sweet!
Let’s Make some Spicy Thai Peanut Hummus!
This recipe is about as easy as it gets – again why I love hummus! All you need is your food processor and your ingredients. Blend them all up and you are ready to go!
I always like to de-skin my chickpeas before making hummus. You definitely don’t have to but I have convinced myself it makes it smoother and easier to digest. Is that true? I am not sure. But I think so!
The extra fun ingredient you don’t normally see in hummus that you’ll find in this recipe is sesame oil. I am OBSESSED with sesame oil. It is so stinking good (you gotta try my sheet pan kung pao chicken). It just adds such a great flavor and you don’t need that much of it! You can certainly make this without it too – the spices add great flavor – but if you want the best experience I suggest getting you some sesame oil!
After that my only advice is to taste as you go. That is another great thing about hummus. There is nothing keeping you from tasting it along the way (no eggs, no raw meat, nothing icky).
So if you are ready for a great snack get your carrots or pretzels for dipping (my faves) and get ready to enjoy!
In addition to the listed ingredients, you will need:
- a food processor
- maybe a spoon to scrape down sides as you go
- that is literally it!
Happy hummus-ing 🙂
