Pizookies are easy to adapt to any of your favorite cookie recipes! Try my Oatmeal Raisin Cookies or Chocolate Chip Cookies for a fun variation!
So, you might be wondering what a Pizookie is. A pizookie, or a skillet cookie, is pretty much just a large cookie that is shaped like a pizza and eaten warm straight from the oven, most times directly from the cast iron skillet it is cooked in. If you live in an area that has a BJ’s restaurant, they are probably the most famous for this delicious dessert.
You may also be looking at the decorations on top of the skillet cookie and thinking ‘I can’t do that!’, but I promise it’s easier than it looks! All you need to do is follow my steps below to make an eye-catching dessert that everyone will love.
Why You Will Love This Halloween Pizookie
- Easy to make – no scooping, rolling or refrigerating dough
- Perfect for a party, or feeding a larger group
- Delicious crispy edges with a gooey chewy center
- Easy to customize
How to Decorate this Halloween Pizookie
With just a few minutes and a few tools, you can make this Halloween treat.
- Using a piping bag fitted with a number 4 tip, start by piping out a crooked hill for the tree to sit on.
- Pipe the base of the tree and then start piping out branches for the tree. Make sure to curl the ends to make the branches look creepy.
- Using a piping bag fitted with a number 2 tip, pipe a few little bats around the tree.
- Using a third piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe dollops of the orange and black frosting around the edge of the pizookie.
- Allow the frosting to harden slightly before enjoying it!
Variations
The great thing about this pizookie recipe is that it is completely customizable! A few of my favorite variations are:
- Skip the Sprinkles – since this dessert is made for the holiday where the kids get an insane amount of candy, you could always skip the sprinkles and sub in your favorite candy from their stash. Reese’s Pieces are always a fun option!
- Add Some Chips – you could also always through in some chocolate chips, or even butterscotch chips
- Go Chocolate – make the whole cookie dark by adding in about ¼ cup of cocoa powder for a chocolate cookie twist
Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions
- Make Ahead – the cookie dough can be made in advance to baking and kept stored in the fridge for a day or two, or can be frozen for about 2 months.
- To Freeze – Allow the cookie to cool completely after baking. Slice it into wedges, then store in an air tight freezer bag or container.
