greyhound vodka

If I have grapefruit juice or grapefruit soda on hand, I usually reach for a Paloma. But I decided to switch things up and grab some vodka so I could make a greyhound. These cocktails are frequently served in a highball glass but I had fun using these stemmed glasses for a girl’s night in. I added a wedge of grapefruit to garnish the rim of the glass and these turned out so cute!

To make a Greyhound, simply mix equal parts vodka, fresh grapefruit juice, and charred grapefruit tonic in a glass over ice and stir to combine. You can also add sweetness in the form of simple syrup, if desired. The Greyhound is a versatile drink that can be easily adjusted to suit your taste preferences. Whether you prefer a sweeter or a more tart flavor, this drink will surely be a hit with anyone who enjoys a good cocktail.

Ingredients for a Greyhound Cocktail

  • Grapefruit juice
  • Vodka
  • Charred grapefruit tonic (optional)
  • Grapefruit Wedge for Garnish

What is charred grapefruit tonic?

The charred grapefruit tonic from Bittermilk is made with lime and lemon juices, cane sugar and cinchona bark, which is the source of quinine used in tonic water. They use fresh grapefruit peels which are torched to extract the bitter citrus notes. This adds a unique flavor to the cocktail, but if you don’t have it, you can skip it. A traditional Greyhound doesn’t use this.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a Greyhound and a Paloma? Greyhound and a Paloma is the type of alcohol that is used. A Greyhound is made with vodka, while a Paloma is made with tequila. This difference in alcohol gives each drink its own distinct flavor profile and sets it apart from the other.

Can I make it sweeter? Yes! Feel free to add an ounce or two of simple syrup for sweetness. Or you can use grapefruit soda instead of grapefruit juice for a sweeter flavor.
