How to Make Mummy Truffles

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Dark chocolate chips: Dark chocolate is the main ingredient for the truffle filling, providing a rich, deep cocoa flavor and smooth texture.
  • Heavy cream: The cream is combined with the dark chocolate to create a luscious ganache filling, adding creaminess and richness to the truffles.
  • Bright white melting wafers: These white chocolate melting wafers are used to coat the truffles, giving them a smooth and creamy outer layer.
  • Flaky salt: A pinch of flaky salt is sprinkled on top of the truffles, enhancing the overall taste by providing a subtle contrast to the sweetness.
  • Candy Eyes or a Black Food Marker: These are used to create the mummy decoration on the truffles, adding a fun and spooky touch to the treats.

  • For dark chocolate chips, you can use semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips, depending on your preferred level of sweetness.
  • If bright white melting wafers are not available, you can use regular white chocolate chips or bars, melted and tempered for coating the truffles.
  • Flaky salt can be substituted with coarse sea salt or omit it altogether if you prefer a sweeter flavor profile.
  • Instead of candy eyes, you can use small pieces of chocolate or chocolate chips for the mummy eyes. For the black food marker, you can use melted dark chocolate or a small dot of black gel food coloring.

Double Chocolate Mummy Truffles

These double chocolate mummy truffles are the perfect spooky treat! Homemade chocolate truffles are dipped in white chocolate and decorated to look like little mummies!

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups bright white melting wafers (see notes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky salt
  • Candy Eyes or a Black Food Marker

  1. Add the chocolate and salt to a large bowl.
  2. Heat the cream in the microwave for 30 seconds— or on the the stovetop until it starts to steam.
  3. Pour the cream over the chocolate and allow it to sit for 1 minute.
  4. Whisk the cream and chocolate until it is fully combined. Cover with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge to harden— about 4 hours.
  5. Once the chocolate is fully hardened, scoop 1 tbsp sized balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Once you’ve scooped all of the truffles, roll them around in your hands to make sure they are tightly packed and smooth on all sides. Place them into the freezer for 20 minutes.
  7. Melt the white chocolate wafers according to the package directions. Transfer 1/4 of the white chocolate to a ziplock bag.
  8. Divide the remaining melted white chocolate into two small bowls.
  9. Remove the truffles from the freezer and dip them one by one into one of the bowls melted white chocolate using a fork. Tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to allow any excess chocolate to drip off. Place the dipped truffles back onto the parchment lined baking sheet.
  10. Allow the white chocolate to fully cool before repeating the process with the second bowl of chocolate— you will dip the truffles in white chocolate twice. (see notes)
  11. If using candy eyes, make sure to attach them while the chocolate is still wet. If using a food marker, allow the chocolate to set fully before drawing on the eyes.
  12. Lastly, cut just the very tip off of the ziplock bag and drizzle the chocolate over the truffles to create the mummy look.
  13. Allow the chocolate to set fully before enjoying. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days.
