Are you ready for a tasty donut recipe that just happens to be both gluten free and vegan? I know, it’s hard to believe but they are! They’re made with a combination of almond flour and coconut flour.

If you love these donuts, be sure to try my cold brew donuts.  I’ve even got a coffee protein frosting to go with them!

These homemade donuts are made from scratch and will melt in your mouth, keeping you coming back for more. They’re the perfect blend of that chocolate peanut butter combo we all love so much, and light enough not to weigh you down after eating one (or a dozen!).  Perfect for a homemade brunch, an easy meal prep breakfast, or as a dessert!

Tips for the Best Vegan and Gluten Free Donuts

First of all – if you need to, first things first, get yourself a donut pan.  If you want to make larger ones, I recommend this pan.

There is no oil used in this baked donut recipe.  It is also vegan, dairy free, and gluten free.  But you would never think you are eating something less indulgent than any other “normal” donut you’d go out and buy.

The glaze is made with powdered sugar.  But if you’d like to make this recipe refined sugar free, top them with my chocolate buttercream sweet potato frosting or my 5 Ingredient HEALTHY Chocolate Frosting.

To ensure your donuts stay intact, let them cool completely in the pan before removing them.  This is another reason I like to use these silicone donut pans.  They are much easier to work with and the little bit of give they allow can help you shimmy those donuts out without breaking them.

In addition to the listed ingredients, you will need:

  • a donut pan (I use a silicone one for easy use)
  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • whisk (for glaze)
  • 1 small mixing bowl (for glaze)

DONUT Worry and enjoy your brunching!

Description

Gluten Free, Vegan, Refined Sugar Free Option

This baked donut recipe combines our favorite chocolate and peanut butter combo into a healthy donut that is fluffy, moist, gluten free, and drizzled with homemade glaze!

Ingredients

Scale

Donuts:

  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup chocolate peanut butter or regular peanut butter (see note)
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons almond milk (plus more if needed to reach desired consistency)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, mix the almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the almond milk, apple cider vinegar, applesauce, and maple syrup.
  4. Pour your wet ingredients into your dry ingredients.
  5. Fill a greased donut pan with your dough. If you don’t have a donut pan, you can use a muffin pan.
  6. Cook until the donuts are firm and bounce back to the touch – about 25-30 minutes.
  7. While the donuts are baking, make the glaze by combining all ingredients in a bowl and whisking until combined. Add additional almond milk, if needed.
  8. Allow donuts to cool completely before removing from pan.
  9. Dip donuts in glaze and enjoy!

Notes

I like the Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter from PB&Co.
