Okay who doesn’t love a good popsicle?? But now a popsicle that is creamy like ice cream, covered in chocolate, AND healthy?  Now that is  a home run in my book.  These chocolate covered frozen bananas are SO easy to make and they are the perfect way to cool down on a hot day because you don’t even need to turn on your oven!

If you are needing all the ways you can to beat the heat, also check out my no bake chocolate fudge cookie bars, my no bake fruit tart (so refreshing in the summer!), and DEFINITELY don’t miss my no bake key lime pie bars (Neil’s all time favorite!), or my mini mango cheesecakes!

Let’s Make Some Chocolate Covered Frozen Bananas!

Really not much to tell with this one. Start with bananas that are at yourpreferred ripeness.  There is no “right” bannaa here.  If you like them a little green, use that, if you prefer some brown spots (they will be a little sweeter this way) wait until they ripen more!

Melting chocolate is tricky.  Because you need it to melt but can’t let it burn.  You can use a double boiler method on the stove top but tbh I am just way too lazy for that.  So I normally microwave mine.  Just start on a low temp, check VERY often, and this will help you not burn it!

Coconut oil – you can probably go without it here, it just makes the chocolate a little smoother and easier for dipping.  Also adds some great healthy fats to the dish too!  But it is not a deal breaker if you don’t have it.

Freezing the pops before dipping helps the chocolate solidify faster and stay where you want it. So I definitely recommend.  BUT it does mean you need to be quick on your toppings!  I think the ones with sprinkles were my fave 🙂

That is about it – enjoy your nanners!

Description

Gluten Free, Vegan, Refined Sugar Free Option

These chocolate covered frozen bananas are a quick no bake dessert made with three ingredients, so easy that the kids can help make it!  Great to cool you down on a hot summer night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe bananas
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Cut your bananas in half, stick a popsicle stick on them, and freeze for 20 minutes.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl, combine the chocolate and the coconut oil together and microwave on 60% heat until melted (check every 30 ish seconds, don’t want it to burn!)
  3. Take your frozen bananas, dip them in the chocolate, and quickly add your toppings (the chocolate will freeze fast!)
  4. Put back in the freezer until well frozen and enjoy!

Notes

As far as bowls go, I liked to use a paper bowl so I can bend it a little and get my bananas fully submerged (the more chocolate the better!) but that is just a tip.

You probably don’t need the coconut oil if you don’t have it.  Just makes it a little easier to dip!

To keep this refined sugar free and vegan you just need to use a chocolate chip that doesn’t have sugar or dairy – my favorite brand is Lily’s.

  1. I can’t find where it says what the sprinkles/ toppings are on them? X

    • I used granola, sugar sprinkles, and pearl sprinkles! You can also use coconut shreds, chopped nuts, or a drizzle of peanut butter!
