avocado chips

This simple recipe came from me forgetting about an avocado that was hiding in the back of my fridge, realizing it was there late in the evening when I was in no mindset to make anything elaborate with it, not wanting it to go bad, and being in the mood for a salty snack (when usually my sweet tooth is kicking in after dinner).

Needless to say it was a happy accident because I thoroughly enjoyed these chips!  And I figure if I like them, you might too.  So I wanted to share in case you ever find yourself in the position I was in.  Or maybe you just find yourself wanting to try a chip made out of avocados – cause hey I think that is a pretty cool chip!

Let’s Make Some Avocado Chips!

So first of all, let me just say that this recipe is super easy to make.  And let me brag on just how healthy these chips are.  They are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.  And not made with any icky ingredients like you find chips in the store.  First of all they are baked, not fried!  So no oil is required to make these.  And they are made “cheesy” by the nutritional yeast, which is actually great for you!  It provides some protein, extra vitamins, and is also one of the only vegan sources of vitamin B12.  So feel free to make a big batch and keep the whole thing to yourself!  You won’t find any guilt or stomach pains here like you do after finishing off that bag of Doritos.

My only tip here is to flatten the avocado mixture as thin as you can in order to get the most crispy chip possible!  And keep an eye on them.  If they start to brown too quick in your oven, turn the heat down earlier.  OR even flip flop!  Cook on 325F for maybe 10 minutes, and then finish off at the higher temperature to crisp them.  Whichever way you find easiest!

Happy snacking!
