Ingredients
Apple Pie Filling Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 cups peeled and chopped gala apples
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¾ cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Apple Spice Cake Ingredients
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 3 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 2½ cups all purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ¾ cup apple cider
- ½ cup whole milk
- 3 8-inch round cake pans
Frosting Ingredients
- 1½ cup unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 large piping bag with large round tip
Caramel Sauce Ingredients
- 2 cups light brown sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup unsalted sweet cream butter
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 squeeze bottle
Instructions
Apple Pie Filling Directions

Using a medium pot, melt the butter

Stir in the apples, sugar and cinnamon.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 C of water with the cornstarch, and whisk lightly until smooth.

Add the cornstarch mixture to the apples and cook 1-2 minutes more, until the mixture has thickened.

Let cool completely
Apple Spice Cake Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray the round cake pans with baking spray

Beat the butter,sugars, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy and combined
-
Beat in the eggs one at a time until combined
-
In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and allspice until combined

Gradually beat in the dry ingredients

Gradually beat in the apple cider and milk until combined and smooth

Divide the batter between the 3 cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean

Allow to cool completely

Remove cakes from cake pans and place onto cake boards

Using a cake leveler, remove the domes of the cakes to create even cake layers
Frosting Directions

Using a standing mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, vanilla and cinnamon until combined, smooth and fluffy with peaks
Building The Cake

Using 1 cake layer, pipe a ring of frosting around the edge of the cake

Scoop about ¾ C of the Apple Pie filling into the center of the cake

Place the second cake layer on top of the pie filling

Pipe another ring of frosting around the edge of the cake and fill it with ¾ C off the apple pie filling

Place the third cake layer on top

Place into the fridge while you make the caramel sauce
Caramel Sauce Directions

Combine all ingredients into a medium pot over medium heat

Whisk gradually until mixture begins to boil

Remove from heat and allow to cool completely

Once cooled, pour caramel sauce into the squeeze bottle

Remove cake from fridge and pipe dollops of the caramel sauce down the sides of the cake and cover the entire top of the cake

Take remaining frosting and pipe dollops around the top of the cake
-
Top with cinnamon stick or leave it as is.
