Equipment You’ll Need
- 3 8-in round cake pans
- 1 large piping bag with large round tip

How to Make this Apple Spice Layer Cake
Make the apple pie filling
- Using a medium pot, melt butter, stir in apples, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Mix in ½ C of water until combined and bring to a low simmer
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining ¼ cup of water with the cornstarch, and whisk till smooth. Add the cornstarch mixture to the apples and cook 1-2 minutes more, until the mixture has thickened
Make the cake layers
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray the round cake pans with baking spray
- Beat the butter, sugars, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy and combined Beat in the eggs one at a time until combined
- In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and allspice until combined. Gradually beat the dry ingredients
- Gradually beat in the apple cider and milk until combined and smooth
- Divide the batter between the 3 cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
- Allow to cool completely then, remove cakes from pans and place them onto cake boards. Using a cake leveler, remove the domes of the cakes to create even layers
Make the frosting
- Using a standing mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, heavi whipping cream, vanilla, and cinnamon until combined, smooth, and fluffy with peaks.
Assemble the cake
- Using 1 cake layer, pipe a ring of frosting around the edge of the cake
- Scoop about ¾ C of the apple pie filling into the center of the cake
- Place the second cake layer on top of the pie filling
- Pipe another ring of frosting around the edge of the cake and fill it with ¾ C off the apple pie filling
- Place the third cake layer on top
- Place into the fridge while you make the caramel sauce
Make the caramel sauce
- Combine all ingredients into a medium pot over medium heat
- Whisk gradually until mixture begins to boil
- Remove from heat and allow to cool completely
- Once cooled, pour caramel sauce into the squeeze bottle
- Remove cake from fridge and pipe dollops of the caramel sauce down the sides of the cake and cover the entire top of the cake
- Take remaining frosting and pipe dollops around the top of the cake
- Top with cinnamon sticks for the perfect finishing touch

- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ¾ cup apple cider
- ½ cup whole milk
